Air Travel, Hotel Reservations

Orbitz: Good fares available; brought to you by the World's Leading Airlines (except Southwest Airlines; see below.)
Travelocity: Travelocity is fast and easy to use, and endorsed by veterans of flying among us.
Southwest Airlines: If you live in most large US cities, you will find their low fares & prompt service are hard to beat. However, flying in or out of Dallas, Southwest used the Wright Amendment as an excuse to charge more because of the additional flight segments required for getting to destinations outside the five states surrounding Texas. Now that the Wright Amendment is gone, Southwest Airlines acts like they are still restricted by it. Who are they kidding?
JetBlue: Travel to and from the New York area inexpensively. They are not as efficient as Southwest and I hope one day that they are.

US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) "World Fact Book": If you don't mind the political angle from which these reports are written, this may be a valuable resource for you.

AP News: Ever wonder where so many journalists get their ledes? Ever wanted to see an AP News photo, and read more about it? This is the actual AP News web site. The AP has a local paper (and web site) in El Paso, and their "world" web site is tucked away inside.
Slate.com: Interesting viewpoints mixed with snippets of other news services. You could call the news bits "gold nuggets", and Slate is mining them for all they're worth.
National Public Radio, On-Line: Excellent source for in-depth news stories, if a little bit late in reporting sometimes.
Day to Day & Slate: "... a collaboration between NPR News and Slate, the award-winning source for compelling journalism and opinion." No, really, who would have thought to mix them, like Peanut Butter and Chocolate?
BBC News: Here, you can read International news that is more straightforward than some American media.
News.com (c|net): Computer related news. Very timely, balanced reporting.
CNN.Com: This used to be a good source for news, but now its largely hype (thanks to AOL-Time Warner.)
Voice of America: English language webcasts. This is the news that America is telling the world about itself and the rest of the world. I like it for its balanced reporting.

(daily) Newsday: The only (Major) Newspaper on Long Island, NY. Also has "pop up" ads!
(weekly) Long Island Press: The "other" Newspaper on Long Island, NY. Glad to see it back on the scene.
(daily) New York Times: Good all around news source. Requires REGISTRATION beyond the front page. Also has "pop up" ads!
(daily) The Chicago Sun Times: One of two major Newspapers in Chicago, Illinois; this one does not require registration to view stories.
(daily) The Dallas Morning News: The Only (Major) Newspaper in Dallas, Texas. Now certain articles and features require registration...
(daily) The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: The Only (Major) Newspaper in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Los Angeles Times: Good international coverage. Now requires REGISTRATION beyond the front page. Features annoying "pop up" ads.
(almost daily) USA Today: OK for reading in a hotel room, but don't expect much.
(daily) The Washington Post: This large city has more than one major paper; this is an excellent one.

The Wall Street Journal: Requires an on-line subscription - does it provide enough value?
The Dismal Scientist: A financial daily with a pessimistic (pragmatic?) viewpoint. Also subscription only.

On-Line Magazines

PC Magazine: One way to catch up on the latest in the consumer computer world.
PC World: Another on-line look at consumer computing.
WebMonkey: One of the best sources of info for Internet-enabled software. Tutorials, etc
Wired: Another source for "inside" web information.

Wisekal's Search page: A collection of my favorite search engines on one easy-to-use page. Teoma and Google are the fastest. But if you aren't sure where to find something, I recommend using Ssspider. Ssspider is very, very thorough.

C|Net Price Comparison: I use this regularly to get a quick fix on market and retail prices.
NewEgg.Com: This is where I recommend to buy computer hardware and digitally-enhanced products. Great prices, large inventory (items are usually in stock for fast delivery), and NewEgg has friendly people.
'Reseller Ratings' on NewEgg: As I said, NewEgg is a great seller. Reseller Ratings rates it highly, too, as you'll see here.
MAB: Makes any browser a dedicated Amazon search tool. Links to Google or Amazon.
Amazon MP3, Sufjan Stevens "Chicago": Shopping at Amazon is the best way I know to relax.
